Job description

Lead and perform instrument systems engineering, analysis, modeling and integration on Thermo Fisher’s Genetic Analysis Platforms: CE Sanger Sequencing and qPCR.

Responsibilities/Primary focus:
  • Development of instruments and systems for upstream sequencing workflows including, but not limited to, sample extraction, library preparation, CE sequencing or qPCR.
  • Work with a group of product development scientists and engineers focused on the development of new sequencing and sample preparation platforms.
  • The successful candidate will be the nexus of all new platform integration and design starting at the prototype stage and continuing through manufacturing.
  • This role also requires working closely with manufacturing partners, external vendors and our business community, to produce robust processes that deliver high quality instrument platform products Thermo Fisher.
Minimum Qualifications (must have)
  • BA or greater in Engineering, Chemistry or Physics.
  • Minimum 10 years experience with one or more of the following:
    • Developing automated instrument systems that integrate disposable microliter scale reaction vessels with flow-in/flow-out reagents.
    • Developing liquid handling systems
    • Experience developing optical detection systems for sequencing or genetic analysis
    • Experience in integrating new and complex technologies
    • Track record of successful launch of a complex consumable and instrument.
  • Strong self starter and fast learner
  • Skills in Solidworks and FEA modeling (CMSOL or equivalent)
  • Skills in Matlab, Mathematica, IgorPro and other data analysis and modeling tools.
  • Skills in instrument software control e.g. Labview, Python 
Preferred Qualifications (nice to have)
  • Familiar with common molecular biology laboratory methods such as PCR, cloning, and enzymology
  • Have strong knowledge of Systems Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
  • Experience developing under ISO13485 a plus.
