General Purpose:
Independently applies engineering theories/concepts to assignments in support of business objectives and will be responsible for providing engineering leadership and expertise. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex engineering projects to meet cost and time objectives. Reviews design and documentation to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards. Conducts feasibility studies, determines manpower and cost estimates and develops engineering criteria. Applies broad knowledge of other disciplines in solving complex problems. Emphasis will be placed on team leadership, participation, ability to plan, and ability to achieve results on assigned projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Completes assignments requiring broad 'generalist' engineering knowledge or specialized technical proficiency. Regularly works on major projects or must solve very complex problems with time and resource constraints.
  • Provides engineering leadership and expertise for creating innovative technology products.
  • Designs Analog, Digital and Logic Systems circuits; applies standard techniques and devices new approaches to achieve desired results.
  • Coordinates and reviews portions of project work assigned to external contractors.
  • May review design calculations of others to ensure proper application of design techniques.
  • May participate in or lead cross-functinal project teams as a technical engineering expert.
  • May lead a team of engineering professionals in support of business objectives; plan and assign personnel for given projects or tasks.
  • Uses judgment and experience to determine technical engineering objectives of assignments.
  • Recommends changes in procedures in response to changing conditions.
  • Acts as key engineering resource and regularly serves as technical representative in area of expertise (both internally and external to HMI).
  • Applies sound project management and engineering principles. May develop and manage project schedules, expenses and capital plans, and other resourcees assigned to bring the project in on time and within budget.
  • Provide leadership and insight into new or emerging engineering concepts and technologies.
  • Support multiple projects in various phases, simultaneously and draws on internal and external networks to achieve results.
  • Performs additional duties as requested.
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Masters degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience includes electronic product development; including experience in analog, digital and logic systems; familiarity with Ethernet, IEEE802.11a/b/g, parallel port, RS232 serial port and USB2.0 devices use of Schematic Capture and Printed Circuit Board layout software.
  • Circuit Board debugging and associated familiarity with laboratory equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, Hipot, Multimeters).
  • Demonstrated experience in Manufacturing and Manufacturing Test Systems.
  • Well developed knowledge of design requirements to meet the Commercial Buildings requirements of the National Electrical Code, the Underwriters Laboratories Standards.
  • Experience using LabVIEW for production circuit testing and background in wireless networking preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of FCC requirements.
  • 8-10 years professional experience.
  • Proven project management experience; PE preferred for some assignments.
  • Knowledgeable in Lean principles and application. Must be able to assess process concepts and to determine where continuous improvement opportunities exist.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with people at various levels including production, engineering, and management and to be able to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of common office automation software, and engineering related software.
  • Must be a skilled problem solver and be able to apply engineering expertise to problem solving.
  • Must be an effective team leader, able to set team goals and commitments, and hold team members accountable for their assigned tasks.
  • Proven ability to assess priorities and determine course of action with minimal day-to-day supervision and be able to anticipate, recognize, and respond effectively to changes which affect project plans.
  • Exhibits an overall business sense and understand how decisions affect the business.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
